Instant Volume With This Perky Ponytail Trick

We all love being able to throw our hair up into a ponytail once and a while but no one wants a droopy ponytail. If you’re reading this you’re either the girl who has very thick hair and the weight is causing the droop or you’re the girl with thin hair wishing you had those kinds of thick hair problems. Either way, we’ve got you covered and are here are some hacks to save your sad looking ponytail.  

Our favorite ponytail trick takes minutes and it’s all done with just two bobby pins. By the end of this tutorial you’ll not only have a perky ponytail but it will look full and voluminous too. Follow the steps and be amazed at how good your pony will look.

Step 1: Add some texture

For those of us that weren’t born with volume we just have to work a little harder for it that’s all. Texture sprays magically add that instant thicker fuller look to achieve the volume you’re looking for. Lift the hair by your crown and give it a couple of sprays. Run your fingers through your hair and it give it a good tousle to fluff it up.

Step 2: Pull the hair up in a ponytail

Grab your hair tie, tilt your head back and gather the hair into a ponytail. Before you add the hair tie is the best time to pull out those tiny pieces of hair around the frame of the face or not if you like the cleaner look.  When you have the ponytail in the preferred position secure it with an elasticized hair tie.

Step 3: Cover up the band (if preferred)

You might be someone who prefers not to have the hair band exposed. If so, this is the time to cover it up. Take one of the bottom strands of hair and wrap it around the ponytail band so it doesn’t show. We recommend using a single bobby pin for this and our little trick for this is to place the ends of the hair into the bobby pin before wrapping it around the band for a little extra hold as shown below by @hairromance.

Step 4: Add two bobby pins (this is where the magic happens)

Grab the ponytail and tilt it upward towards your face. Get two bobby pins and place them downward in a vertical position, place underneath the pony, through the hair tie on both sides of the base of the ponytail. Then flip the ponytail back in position and spread the hair at the base of the ponytail to make it look fuller and wider. Step 5: Finishing touches

If you want a more polished look, smooth out the flyaways with a brush, and nicely and gently comb the hair while holding the ponytail firmly at the base.  You can fluff it up with your fingers just in the root to make it more undone and casual. You can always use extra bobby pins to secure the shorter pieces in the back that may have fallen out if you wish.

These five easy steps will have your ponytail looking perky and plump in no time. They are also doable at all heights of the pony. The higher the pony is, the greater the options are to make the pony more voluminous and fuller.
